The village of Scarlino is located on top of a low hill surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Located just a few km from the coast, the town enjoys a wonderful view over the Gulf of Follonica, the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago and the Promontory of Punta Ala.
Of ancient etruscan origin, Scarlino has probably developed between the twelfth and eleventh century B.C. To testify it are the numerous etruscan graves found in the area and dated back by the expert to that period of time.
The territory of Scarlino is divided between the hills and the sea. In fact on the coast in the locality of Puntone is located a port mostly used for docking the sailing boats. Not far from here there are even some sandy beaches surrounded by mediterranean vegetation. The most popular beaches are Cala Martina and Cala Violina, both can be reach only by foot or by bike along a path that crosses the pine forest.
