From the 1st century BC however, from rich and animated as it was, this area lost its importance and was almost abandoned.<br \/>\nFortunately, the <strong>necropolises<\/strong> in the park have kept the testimony of that period untouched. Opened in <strong>1998<\/strong> with <strong>visit paths<\/strong> perfectly suited to families, school and tourists, the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia is a real open-air museum.<br \/>\nIt is possible to visit the <strong>Necropolis of San Cerbone<\/strong> with the ancient Etruscan tombs of Populonia, the <strong>Necropolis of the Caves<\/strong>, which has graves dug directly in the rock, and the <strong>Acropolis of Populonia<\/strong>, the ancient city center with temples, monuments, houses, paved roads.<br \/>\nThere are numerous signposts that point to nearby attractions to guide tourist along the paths.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Extending between the Promomory of Piombino and the Gulf of Baratti, the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia is a large green area that preserves numerous Etruscan and Roman monuments.
